tornados and tivo

21 01 2010

There was a tornado warning in my backyard.  I am not even kidding you, in my backyard.  My house was covered in the red on the little weather map on tv with the little twisty thing.

I would say that it was scary, but I was blogging and watching Pri.vat.e Pr.acti.ce on TiVo and I didn’t even know about it until 15 minutes later.  Then it was just kind of funny. It was cool that my cell phone blew up with concern (never turned it off silent after work).

So, I guess there are downfalls of TiVo.  Who knew?

I don’t know what I would have done if I did see it in time.  I don’t even know how to hunker down.  I don’t know the first thing about natural disasters… that’s why I live in AZ.  No natural disasters. Today has been kind of a crazy day…  tornado warnings, blizzard warnings, massive flooding.  AZ has gotten 1/2 of it’s annual rainfall in less than 24 hours.  We don’t get this too often.  I need to get some sleep.

I don’t think any tornados even touched down… not that I ever really thought any would.  I mean, it is Arizona.

That’s some crazy weather you are having out there!

In the event of a tornado, if you have time, open windows on both sides of your house. It helps the air flow through and may eliminate some damage. If you have a basement, head there. If not, seek refuge on the ground floor, preferably in a room with no windows. Or get into the bathtub and cover your body with something like folded up towels or pillows.

I was terrified of tornado warnings as a child, and they were frequent here in PA. I’d take my prized possessions (my hot pink radio, my hamsters, and my pound puppy) into the basement and hide in the dryer. Haha!

I live in a different part of PA than Jodi and thankfully, we never experienced tornado warnings (maybe a tornado watch here and there). I wouldn’t know how to hunker down either, except to go to the basement. It’s a good thing you were watching Tivo and didn’t realize. That’s how I would prefer it. I get freaked out when we have ‘high winds’. Well, glad nothing came of it for you. It’s crazy that AZ is getting all of that rain.
